MIMC General Competition Rules & Regulations

1. Eligibility

The MIMC Championship is open to professional massage therapists from Spain and internationally.

Competitors must have appropriate professional training and qualifications relevant to the category or categories in which they wish to compete.

Each competitor must hold valid professional insurance that covers their massage practice and participation in the Championship in Spain. Proof of insurance must be submitted and approved by the MIMC organising team before the competitor's entry is accepted and payment instructions are issued.

Each competitor may enter one, two or three categories, subject to the applicable category requirements.

2. Registration & Acceptance

All competitors must complete the official MIMC registration form and provide accurate and complete information.

Submission of a registration form does not automatically guarantee acceptance or confirm a competition place.

Applications will be reviewed by the MIMC organising team, including the competitor's insurance documentation and any other information required for participation.

Once an application has been approved, the organisers will provide the competitor with the official payment instructions.

A competition place is confirmed only once the required payment has been received and the organisers have confirmed the entry.

3. Professional Conduct

All competitors, models, judges and other participants are expected to behave professionally and respectfully throughout the Championship.

Respectful conduct towards fellow competitors, models, judges, organisers, staff and authorised personnel is required at all times.

Any behaviour that is threatening, abusive, discriminatory, sexually inappropriate, intimidating or otherwise seriously inconsistent with professional standards may result in removal from the Championship and/or disqualification.

4. Model Requirements & Professional Boundaries

Competitors may bring their own model, subject to the Championship's requirements.

The model must wear appropriate underwear and a chest covering where applicable.

The dignity, privacy, comfort and safety of the model must be maintained throughout the treatment.

MIMC operates a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual behaviour, inappropriate contact, sexualised conduct or inappropriate exposure of a model. Any breach of this rule may result in immediate removal and disqualification from the Championship.

5. Safety & Prohibited Techniques

The safety of both the competitor and model is a priority throughout every round.

Competitors must not perform high-risk physical manoeuvres, dynamic movements or techniques that could reasonably compromise the safety or wellbeing of the model or competitor.

Osteopathic and chiropractic manipulations are not permitted.

Any technique considered unsafe by the organisers or judges may be stopped immediately.

Competitors are responsible for working within the limits of their professional training, qualifications and insurance.

6. Equipment, Tools & Materials

Competitors must bring their own massage tools, massage sheets/towels and appropriate supplies required for their category.

MIMC will provide massage tables and massage chairs.

Competitors are responsible for leaving their working area clean and hygienic and must bring suitable disinfectant wipes or sprays for cleaning their equipment and working area.

Tools

Tools may be used where permitted by the relevant category, provided that they are safe, portable and suitable for professional massage practice.

Battery-operated or self-powered devices may be used where permitted by the relevant category.

Plug-in electrical equipment is not permitted on the competition floor, as electrical sockets will not be available for competitor use.

Sharp, dangerous or otherwise unsafe instruments are strictly prohibited.

Any misuse of equipment or tools that could place a model, competitor or other person at risk may result in immediate intervention and/or disqualification.

Category-specific rules may impose additional restrictions on tools and equipment.

Participants are responsible for the safekeeping of their personal belongings and equipment. MIMC and the organisers cannot accept responsibility for loss, theft or damage to personal property brought to the Championship, except where liability cannot legally be excluded.

7. Fire & Open Flame

Open flames are strictly prohibited.

Candles, fire cupping and any other technique involving an open flame or uncontrolled fire are not permitted anywhere on the competition floor.

8. Hygiene & Sanitation

All competitors must maintain high professional standards of hygiene throughout the Championship.

Hands must be disinfected before and after each massage, with visible hand sanitation expected.

The massage table, massage chair, mattress or other treatment surface must be appropriately cleaned and disinfected before and after each treatment.

Competitors must follow any additional hygiene and infection-control instructions issued by the organisers or venue.

9. Professional Appearance & Dress Code

Competitors must maintain a clean, professional and appropriate appearance throughout the competition.

Personal professional logos may be worn on clothing provided that the overall appearance remains professional.

Black professional attire or clinical scrubs are strongly recommended, particularly to reduce visible staining from massage oils.

Footwear must be closed-toe, flat and non-slip. High heels, sandals and open-toe footwear are not permitted for safety reasons.

Jewellery: necklaces, watches, rings and bracelets must be removed before entering the competition floor. Only small, discreet stud earrings are permitted.

Attire: clothing must remain modest and professional. Low-cut tops and deep or revealing necklines are not permitted.

Hair: long hair must be securely tied back and kept away from the face and the model throughout the treatment.

Competitors must not walk barefoot. Indoor footwear must be worn at all times when moving through the venue, including when using the restrooms.

10. Competition Duration & Category Requirements

Each competition round will last 30 minutes, unless a different duration is specifically stated in the rules for a particular category.

Competitors must follow all category-specific requirements, techniques, prompts and restrictions established for the category in which they are competing.

Failure to comply with category-specific requirements may affect judging and may, where appropriate, result in disqualification.

11. Judging & Scoring

Each competitor will be assessed by members of the MIMC judging panel during the competition rounds.

Judges will move around the competition floor and observe competitors throughout their treatment. Each judge will assess competitors independently using the official MIMC judging criteria and scoring sheets.

1. Technique
The variety, anatomical understanding, precision and suitability of the massage techniques used, taking into account the requirements of the chosen category.

2. Ergonomics & Body Mechanics
The competitor's posture, stance, positioning, appropriate table height where applicable, and effective use of body weight and movement to support safe and efficient practice.

3. Flow
The continuity, rhythm, tempo and fluidity of the treatment, including smooth transitions between techniques and different areas of the body.

4. Client Interaction & Care
The competitor's professional interaction with the model, including hygiene, appropriate draping and modesty, application of oils where applicable, communication, comfort and overall care.

5. Innovation & Presentation
The originality and creativity of the treatment, together with professional appearance, workspace presentation and appropriate development of techniques within the chosen category.

The competitor achieving the highest cumulative score will receive the highest placement in their respective category.

The organisers reserve the right to determine the weighting and detailed allocation of scores within the official judging sheets.

Score Verification

To ensure the accuracy of the final results, all scores and mathematical calculations will be checked by the designated MIMC Double Checker together with the Lead Judge before the results are confirmed.
